Digital technology has afforded us the ability to scan the mouth to make a desired dental product (e.g. crown, denture, night guard, aligner, retainer, etc.). Generally, we never need to take impressions of the mouth using a tray filled with a viscous, goopy liquid. Instead, in most cases, we can now scan the mouth using a 3D imaging camera (intraoral scanner), and then use that information to fabricate what is needed.
